General Motors Brass Ash Tray
Cast copper or bronze with high copper content. 4” diameter x ½” tall. Front show head-on view of a 1930’s General Motors automobile, tree to the right and mountainside to the left. Below the car in the roadbed is “GENERAL MOTORS” with “WHO SERVES PROGRESS” above in the rim, and “SERVES AMERICA” below. The bottom of this ashtray is blackened patina and has a cast label; “DESIGNED AND MADE BY TERNSTEDT DIV. GENERAL MOTORS COMPANY”. Seven spots of light metal tarnish on the reverse. Two spots of slag staining on the front; one at the “ES” of “PROGRESS”, the other at the “MO” of “MOTORS”. Tarnish stain on side of ashtray on right outer edge.
