British WW1 Cavalry Stirups with Straps, mk'd & dated "1915"

$95.00

British World War One Cavalry Spurs with leather straps. 5 5/8” long x 3 5/8”. Forged steel. These are each marked with the British “Broad Arrow” stamped into the spur neck. The maker’s name; “WILLIAMS & Co” and date; “1915” are stamped into the metal in the interior of each spur yoke. The rowels have been “silenced”, which means to avoid making any extra noise, these sharpened discs, at the ends of the shanks, have been intentionally hammered flat to each shank body. This “silencing” of rowels was common during World War One. In fact, American WW1 Spurs did not have rowels, they just had a shank. The leather straps are in decent condition given their age, some minor cracking and edge wear. They are sewn onto each spur. One strap going under the arch and the other adjusted over the top of the foot. One strap end is impressed Broad Arrow and “J.H.” This is a great pair of British military Cavalry Spurs, very nicely marked and dated, “1915”. Unusual to find them with their leathers. Price: $95.00 (ref. B-8595)
