United States Marine Corps WW2 Medical Corpsmen Knife

$340.00

U.S.M.C. W.W.2 Medical Corpsmen Knife. This example was made by John CHATILLON & Sons, New York City, N.Y. It is marked; “U.S.M.C.” and “CHATILLON N.Y.” on the left blade flat. The knife is 16 ½” overall with a 12 ¼” bright steel blade. This massive bolo bladed knife weighs 2 ¼” pounds and has a ¼” wide tang through the handle. The wooden handle scales are riveted to the tang with three copper rivets. This knife is in un-used, excellent condition, with it’s original bright steel finish. There is some darkened toning on the marked side along edge toward the tip. The cutting edge has never been user-sharpened, so it has it’s factory edge, which is finished dull; that is to say not a sharped edge. It has it’s original heavy leather scabbard, which is 12 ¼” long having a leather rectangular tab at it’s rear, with the brass hanger devise. This leather is impressed; “U.S.M.C. BOYT 45” in three lines. The scabbard is a Type 2 Variation.. Both variations had a darked brass metal throat that was held by two pins at each end. The Type 2 has two center rivets front and back holding the brass throat to the leather scabbard body. The scabbard has a nice russet leather color. This is mottled with age discoloring from years of storage. This example of the U.S.M.C. Medical Corpsmen would be tough to improve upon in a collection. These late-war dated U.S.M.C knives sets were meant for the invasion of mainland Japan, which never happened, hence this example’s excellent condition. Price: $340.00 (ref C-247)
