U.S. Navy One Pound (37mm) Shell with Projectile- INERT

$120.00

U.S. Navy One Pounder (37mm) Shell with Projectile . This has no gun-powder and the primer has been struck with a screw driver to set it off. It has been unloaded and would be considered “inert”. It stands 7 5/8” tall. Without the solid steel head, the brass shell is 4 15/16” tall. The head is 3 ½” tall and is hollow. Around it is a ¾” copper rifling band. This example has: “LOT 1075-2” and an ordnance “Flaming Bomb” logo, impressed into this copper band. The base of the head has; “37MM STEEL SHELL MK 1”, a maker’s id: “PE & MCO” and an ordnance “flaming bomb” logo.  The base of the brass shell has the following headstamps, the upper rocker; “W.N.Y.” with smaller “12-1902”. The lower rocker; “E.C.P”, “anchor” logo, “J.W.G” with smaller “1-PDR.H.”. The marking; “12-1902” dates it's manufacture to the Spanish American War period, though it may have seen use in World War One. The head fits loosely in the neck of the shell. This is a nice, well-marked example of a U.S. Navy 1 Pounder (inert) Round. 37m.m. guns were in use on U.S. Navy ships sailing around the world during the pre-WW1 period. Price: $120.00 (ref. C-250)
