U.S. WW2 "WAR DOG" Waterproof Blanket. This is a rare WW2 “WAR DOG” Waterproof Blanket. It is an O.D. cotton, lined with blanket wool. It measures 30” long x 22” wide at the neck and with a 32” girth, measuring the length of the cloth belly-straps. This example is in very good condition. This example does not have the original white depot tag on the inner seam at the neck, since it was typically cut off. The front has two blackened snap closures and two leather straps and buckles. At the belly there are two cloth straps with buckle closures. The wool lining is in very good condition, with minor staining and wear, typical of it’s age and use. The leather straps are complete and excellent, but appear to be brittle. The picture in the “WAR DOG” manual is shown for reference. These “K-9 Corps” Waterproof Blankets were worn out during the War, or when passed into the civilian market after WW2, were then used up. The example offered is similar to the one pictured, but as noted, does not have repairs or a repairs tag. Updated images will be posted soon. It is rare to find a decent survivor.
