WW2 U.S. Barometer marked “UNITED STATES MARITIME COMMISSION”.

$165.00

Aneroid Barometer marked “UNITED STATES MARITIME COMMISSION”. World War Two vintage. It is 6 ½” diameter at mounting flange, 5 ½ “diameter at front, 4 ½” face. Marked above centered; “UNITED STATES MARITIME COMMISSION” and below centered; “SERIAL NO.(blank)” and the maker’s info; “FRIEZ, BENDIX AVIATION, BALTIMORE”. There is a block for a serial number to be added, and this block is blank. The instrument is housed in a Bake-a-Lite plastic case, made by the General Electric Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The back of the case has the classic “GE” in circle logo, and some production numbers. There is also a hole, marked; “POINTER SET” to allow the instrument housed within to be adjusted to the local, correct pressure. There are three brass hole inserts on the flange to mount this unit to a wall or bulkhead. The US Maritime Commission was founded in 1936 and discontinued in 1950. It’s role was to organize the production of merchant ships, replacing those ships of WW1 vintage. The U.S. Merchant Marine would serve the U.S. military forces and Lend-Lease partners shipping supplies and material world-wide during World War Two. These FRIEZ Barometers were beautifully made in the USA. This one served the US Maritime Commission, which is a less common marking compared with the US Navy examples. Fully functioning and ready to serve you. Price: $165.00 (ref. C-245)
