WW2 E.G.W. Knife with sheath. Made by E.G. Waterman & Co

$165.00

E.G.W. Knife made by E. G. Waterman & Co., New York City. 10 5/8” overall with a 6 1/8” bright, hollow-ground blade. The guard and pommel are both oval discs of similar size and with a wooden one-piece grip, having black plastic spacers at each end. The tang is drilled for, and has a 7/8” ring at the butt end. The original machine marks from it’s manufacture are visible through-out the metal finish. The ricasso, with the blade pointed left, is marked “E G W, KNIFE” in two lines. The blade edge is dull, but appears to be the original factory sharpening, and does not appear to be owner sharpened. The metal has modest rust stains, more distinct on the un-marked side. There is light rust shadow in the protected area where the tang and ring protrude beyond the butt disc. It appears to have been used until dull. It has near excellent wood grip, which has a minor ¼” bruise on the marked side, at the mid-point of the grip side. The 12” leather scabbard, which appears to be original to the knife, is stitched and has metal rivets and a leather snap strap to retain the knife in the scabbard. These knives were produced commercially during the war years, and variations of handle materials and blade lengths exist. They were sold with a “genuine leather sheath”, but I cannot say with certainty that this sheath is original to the knife. However, this sheath came with this knife and has age consistant to the knife. Although they were not a military-issued knife, many were purchased and carried to war by soldiers anxious to have a decent knife. When found these EGW Knives are usually well used or used-up. This example is in a nice, lightly used condition, and remains mostly bright metal finish. Referenced on page 193 in Cole’s “U.S. Military Knives Book III”. Price: $165.00 (ref. B-929)
