1958 ZIPPO "38th AIR TRANSPORT Squadron" w/ 2 side engraving. This military engraved and well used lighter is a chrome with satin finish sides example. It has “OUTSTANDING SQUADRON ATLANTIC DIVISION MATS” engraved on the lid, with the squadron Distinctive Insignia and “38th AIR TRANSPORT SQDN.” on the body side below. On the reverse side body is engraved “FROM THE OFFICERS OF THE 38th AIR TRANSPORT SQDN.” and in different (later) engraving; “To Colonel Robert H. Stuart” below. It has the script “ZIPPO” logo on the base with four dots on either end of the ZIPPO logo, which indicates it was made in 1958. Below that “PAT. 2517191” is centered . The hinge is loose on this one, totally functional, just well used. The insert shows use and staining (which could be cleaned if desired by the new owner), and opening and filling scoring marks on it’s sides. It is the correct insert with the horizontal markings, and the early block ZIPPO logo and “PAT PEND.”. This is a the insert made from 1953 thru 1956. This insert was in a bin and pulled when the lighter was manufactured. There is some loss of color on the D.I., and the hinge is loose, but this one is a nice early military engraved lighter.
