1904 Penny Toy Game, "Battle of Port Arthur"

$135.00

1900’s Penny Toy Game, probably English. 1 13/16th diameter tin disc, 5/16th deep, with glass top, litho’d harbor scene, and paper cardstock back. Inside is a colored litho scene of the Battle of Port Arthur, This surprise attack began the Russo-Japanese War. The naval battle took place February 8 and 9th, 1904 at Port Arthur, Manchuria when two groups of Japanese destroyers attacked the Russia fleet at anchor in Port Arthur. This penny toy game has four tiny white balls and a color litho’d bevel edge game board. The object of the game is to get these balls into depressions (Holes) in the battle scene. Interestingly, the attack was made at night, and the scene has the port landfall in the background with the moon above in a dark sky. A sinking Russian dreadnaught has several ball holes in it, as does a Japanese Destroyer’s masthead, where the Naval Flag flies! The scene is titled; “Port Arthur” on the top bevel.  The reverse of the disc has a nice “chain-link” crimping to retain the paper stock backing. These were a few pennies back then, now… Price: $135.00 (ref. TB B-462)
