Meccano DINKY TOYS “Ships of the British Navy No. 50” made 1934-1942

$165.00

Meccano DINKY TOYS “Ships of the British Navy No. 50” This was part of a set of toy ships created and produced by Meccano, Ltd. The set was known as product # 50 or "Ships of the British Navy." This consisted of 14 individual die cast/metal ships to include Hood, Rodney, Nelson, etc. The set was produced between 1934 and 1942. This set is missing 2 ships and three have been restored. As can be seen in the pictures, the ships have warped, since they are hollow cast in “pot-metal” and might have been stored in a hot/cold environment. The “Hood”, the “Effingham”, and the “Rodney” have cracked apart and were expertly epoxied. I like this set mostly for the box, and the graphics are excellent. There is modest loss of the blue interior color as seen in the pictures. The cover label is excellent, bright and vivid. The end label to id it on the store shelf, and a price tag from Woodward & Lothrop on the bottom add to the appeal of this scare set. Price: $165.00 (ref. TR A-1072)
