Imperial German WW1 Christmas Biscuit Tin

$180.00

Imperial German WW1 Christmas Biscuit Tin. 7 1/2” w. x 5 3/8” d. x 3 1/2” tall, light sheet steel construction. It has terrific multi-colored lithographed decoration. The lid has four bands of holly leaves and berries from each corner towards a centered World War One Iron Cross, surrounded with a wreath. Each side shows a different coat-of-arms shield. The front has the red, white and black of the German Empire, the left end has the white Turkish moon and star on a red shield, the right end has the Bulgarian white, red and green shield, and the rear side has the black and yellow shield of Baden-Wurtemberg. Above the rear shield on the rear lid is the maker’s information; “MUSTER GESCHUTZT”, in fine lettering. The exterior has light edge wear, and litho wear to the corners of the lid. Overall, the colors are not faded, and the wear is even. The interior had something moist, like bread, stored in it, causing some light surface rust over most of the interior bottom onto the lower interior edges. This happened long ago. It has not been cleaned or messed with, but is inert. The lid hinge is a simple wire hinge which opens and closes well, but binds slightly if not closed with care. The lithographed decorations really have an impressive look. This German WW1 Christmas Biscuit Tin is in lovely condition, and has aged well, while others are long gone.  Price: $180.00 (ref. TB A-105)
