Silver Trophy Cup. Pratt's PATENT Dog Biscuits "Dogs Drinking at a Table" 1902
German Pratt’s PATENT Dog Biscuits Silver Trophy Cup. This is a lovely 4 1/8” tall .800 Silver Cup. It’s weight is 4.79 Troy Ounces (148.9 g). This example has a turned-in finished rim. A 3/8” band towards the top is impressed with “RUMMELSBURG-BERLIN O. EHRENPREIS DER SPRATT’S PATENT ACT.-GES.” which loosely translates to “Honor Prize Sponsored by Rummelsburg-Berlin Office’s of SPRATT’S PATENT”. A 2 1/2” tall x 3” wide relief scene shows five dogs of various breeds, standing and sitting around a table, wine and bier glasses on the table and scattered. The lead dog stands on a dog house, chain and collar attached! Dog Party! Spratt’s Patent were the first makers of commercial dog biscuits when they started biscuit production in 1870 in London, England at the old London Armoury Company factory on Henry Street. This cup was awarded in Elbertfeld, near Wuppertal, in central Germany. It is engraved as such below the dog scene. The base is marked with German assay marks; a crescent moon, a King’s Crown, 800, and the maker’s logo; a man in a hat. Below is the maker’s name “E.MEYEN & Co”. The base rim has fine scratches from the cup’s years on a shelf. This is a great dog themed silver trophy with a comical scene! Price: $195.00 (ref. B-979)
